Storm UltraVolt
--------------------------------------------------------------
A little jam game featuring a boss fight with bullet heaven inspirations that was made in around 10 days for:
Gamedev.js Jam 2024
Theme: Power
In this short action-packed game, you'll play as the lean, sexy powerhouse known as Storm. She has made it her mission to destroy the foreign machines who have come to strip her homelands of its resources in order to power their machines. To do this she's going to hit them where it hurts, the power plant. Dismantling this behemoth will prove to be difficult, given that the power plant is a sentient machine itself who commands a legion of robotic underlings. But Storm is up to the task because she's not any ordinary goblin. She has fierce lightning powers gifted to her by the gods.
Controls:
Hover over Icons with the mouse in the level up screen and left click to select
W, A, S D or Arrow Keys if you want to cramp your hands | Movement |
Mouse and Left Mouse Click | Aim and Shoot Bolts |
Hold Right Click | UltraBolt Aiming mode |

Press P | Pause |
-Dodging moves Storm toward the cursor.
-While in UltraBolt aiming mode make sure the reticle is in range of Storm, otherwise you can not cast the bolt. Press Left mouse when you want to fire.
Leveling UP:
If you've socked enough metal heads, you'll level up. Your progress is tracked in a bar at the bottom of the screen. Each time you level, it'll require more XP to level up again.
When you level up you have the option of choosing either a Power upgrade or a Resilience upgrade. Power upgrades will mainly involve dealing damage, while Resilience upgrades have more to do with fortitude and protection. Some upgrades are just plain stat changes and others may alter gameplay. Either way, they become more powerful with stacks.

My Commentary:
Development was kind of a mess because I couldn't decide what I wanted to make. I knew from the start I wanted a goblin destroying generators that use resources from her homeland as fuel. But it took me a while to arrive at a game that works off that concept. Eventually, I thought up this bullet heaven concept, which are games inspired by Vampire Survivors. They're rooted in power fantasy, so I figured that'd do.
Due to time constraints, it lacks polish in some areas and severely lacks testing and balancing. It be that way in a jam sometimes ≡(▔﹏▔)≡ But I got to draw a sexy goblin girl and that makes it all okay. I wish I had time to give some story to this game though to expand on her character. And time to think of something other than "Storm Ultravolt". It's like I was trying to sound cool, but in a lame way.

Post Jam Edits:
-added fire rate upgrade
-added pause
-added volume widgets
-Improved Dodge mechanic a bit
-light polishing here and there
-slight balance changes
Unless somebody finds a game breaking bug, that's all I'm doing

Good job on your first (?) survivors like. Artstyle is great and the idea of making it a boss-fight feels very original. It adds some kind of goal-oriented feeling to the game.
Thank you! I have dabbled with survivors-like mechanics before, but I'd say this is my most survivors-like game. I'm happy you enjoy my addition of a boss atop the usual formula. If I had more time in the jam, I would've made it a boss rush
Fun game. I really liked the art style. Great job!
Thanks! Art is something I always prioritize in my games
